Credit Unions 

Burke Melrose provides specialised legal advice to credit unions and acts for a significant proportion of the credit unions in New Zealand.
We advise and assist credit unions with securities law, banking and financial services. Our services include:

  • The preparation of prospectuses, investment statements and advertisements
  • Loans to members, the taking of securities for loans and recovery of bad debts
  • Compliance with the Friendly Societies and Credit Unions Act 1982
  • Director and officer responsibilities
  • Compliance with the credit union’s trust deed and rules and assistance when dealing with the credit union’s prudential supervisor
  • Commercial and banking related products, such as securitised mortgage products, transactional banking arrangements and debit card, EFTPOS and ATM facilities
